Bernadette Beaver's Favorite Recipes

Bernadette loves to nibble on bark.

Bernadette knows that you like to nibble on good things too, so she is happy to share some of her favorite recipes with you.

Sweet, Tasty Bark

What you need to gather:

6 ounces of good white chocolate
1/2 cup whole, toasted almonds

What you need to do:

Take the white chocolate and almonds into your lodge. Ask a grownup to help you place the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on medium power until the white chocolate begins to melt. Stir the white chocolate and continue to microwave on medium until it is all nearly melted. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and stir in the almonds.

Spread the mixture onto a nonstick cookie sheet, or onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Place in a cool place until the bark becomes firm. Break into pieces, and nibble away!

Twigs And Sticks

What you need to gather:

1/2 pound of chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch, or peanutbutter chips (choose your favorite one)
1 bag of big, thick pretzel sticks

What you need to do:

Take your sticks and baking chips into your lodge. Ask a grownup to help you place the chips in a microwave safe bowl. Put the bowl of chips in the microwave and heat on medium until the chips begin to melt. Stir the chips, and then heat again on medium until the chips are all melted. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave.

Take a little spoon, and dip it into the melted chips. Blow on it until it is cooled down, then give it a little taste. Smile and say, "mm mm mm." Put the spoon in the sink and get ready for business.

Take a big spoon and dip out a good spoonful of the melted chips. Then take one of your sticks and roll it around in the chocolate on the spoon, until you have covered as much of the stick as you want to. You might want to leave some of the stick uncovered so that your paws don't get sticky.

Put the sticks onto a nonstick cookie sheet or a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Place in a cool place until the coating becomes firm. Nibble away, and be sure to share with your friends.

An Edible Beaver Lodge

What you need to gather:

1 pound ground beef or prepared vegetarian burger
1 small onion (chopped)
4 cups cooked kidney beans or pinto beans
3 cups cooked rice (optional)
1 bag of tortilla chips
1/2 head of lettuce (chopped)
1 large chopped tomato
generous amount of shredded cheese
mild salsa

What you need to do:

Take all of the things you have gathered into your lodge. Ask a grownup to help you. Sauté the ground beef or vegetarian burger with the chopped onion, until cooked thoroughly. Drain off any excess grease or juices.

Heat the beans while the burger is cooking, and stir the rice into them if you would like.

Put everything into bowls and place the bowls onto the table in the dining area of your lodge. Pass them around to each member of your lodge so they can build their edible lodges in this order:

tortilla chips
burger
beans and rice
lettuce
tomato
cheese
salsa

Wait until everyone has built a lodge then dig in beaver style and enjoy!
